As I gaze upon your sleeping faces,
I remember all the gifts you
have given me today:
The gift of patience when I thought there was no more to give,
The gift of recognizing your best effort does not have to be
perfect,
The gift of the warm feeling throughout my body when you tell
me, "You'll be my best friend always"
The gift of respecting you when you ask me not to kiss you when
I drop you off in front of the school because your friends might
see,
The gift of realizing that I won't go crazy if I say no 684
times in 6 hours,
The gift of understanding that brothers and sisters can fight
like cats and dogs and still sneak in each other's rooms to
commiserate,
The gift of appreciation for the energy level you are all
blessed with,
The gift of the sheer joy of playing hide and seek and tag with
you and your friends,
The gift of music and dance as you perform, unaware of my
watching you,
The gift of observation of how a ladybug can be both orange and
red and how it really does want to get home but not necessarily
because of a fire,
The gift of anticipation of Santa's arrival and how many
presents will be under the tree because of course, you all have
been nothing but excellent,
The gift of laughter when I ask you what you think I want for
Christmas and a chorus of voices immediately says in perfect
unison, "Peace and quiet".
But most of all, I want to thank you for the gift of being
allowed to be your mom,
And for being privileged to share your lives for this brief
period of time.
I shall try to give you gifts of love, understanding, guidance
and friendship every day of your lives,
And to help mold you into the wonderful people I see you
becoming.
I love you all forever with all my heart,
Mom
