Wishes for William

From a late February birth,
He unfolds like a rose in your arms,
Skin full of blood, tufted dark hair,
Little wise blue eyes,
Cradled forward on the breast,
In the repose of infants new to gravity.
Learning about the feel of air,
On his skin and sunlight on his face.
A dreaming bundle asleep,
Against the crook of your arm.
His mouth opens like a cat's,
Wide and pink the sucking blister still showing.

A son for the both of you surrounded by sisters
A brother for a sister to draw strength against.

Crying to draw your breast back to him,
William latches on to the wide aereola's waves of comfort,
On the tide of mothers milk that soothes to sleep,
Drops sails the bark of a bairn,
At rest in the home's apex,
Up the stairs in your bedroom,
Near the little window,
For a candle on a dark night.
The waters run in a current,
Through the linds of this dwelling.
At Dumaresq, a house name
That paints the idle hours,
With blue green shadows,
Amid boisterous charm.
The fall of Summer rain on
Lemons held to ripen,
On the bough at the back door.
Autumn will move the days slowly,
To herald this new child's
Running across your threshold in the coming years.
