Ode to My First Home
You were all prepared and waiting for me
I nuzzled in preparing to be
Nurtured, loved, awaited and fed
I curled up in my favorite bed.
A twinkle in my mother's eye
She couldn't wait to hear me cry
She counted on you to keep me warm , help me grow, safe from harm
I grew and grew, kicked and twirled Grabbed my toes – I was a girl
As a grew I stretched you thin
Misplacing your buddies: bladder and intestine
You all cooperated for my sake
Thanks a lot, you're really great.
As my birthday grew near, you didn't fear
You knew just what to do
I wasn't quite ready; you let me stay on,
Thanks for letting me go 3 weeks long.
Finally you said enough is enough,
I've done all I can; I know it'll be tough.
But you little girl are ready to be born.
Go on, push out and toot your horn.
I was born in 1969
I worked and pushed and then I cried
My Momma grabbed me and hugged me near.
I felt so safe with nothing to fear.
From one home to the next
The transition was smooth
And ever since life's has been a cruise
After 4 kids you're tired now.
And now it's time to rest somehow.
You've done your job tremendously,
I thank you and thank you graciously
It's time for you to have a rest,
And count on us to fill our nests.
It's time for us to take the lead
Preparing for the next to be...
Nurtured, loved, awaited and fed.
Curled up in their favorite bed.
