A tiny heart fluttered my way today
but tears came
and melted it away.
A tiny shattered body swam on by
Shh, listen!
Was that an infant’s cry?
A tiny hand waved as I strained to see
Oh Mommy,
don’t you recognize me?
Tiny feet struggled to keep up
but were swallowed
in one swift gulp.
Sparkling eyes of misty blue
Why Mommy,
I do believe I could’ve looked like you.
If I came to you tonight
Just once
would you hold me tight?
And if I promise not to weep
Could you then
rock me to sleep?
I know it’s foolish, but I too dream
ONLY
You never heard my silent scream
