Child in Slumber

On this night the floors I pace,
as I gaze at your angelic face

For while I dare to watch you sleep,
your sweet innocence causes me to weep

I pull you close to suckle my breast,
but you continue with your rest

And while I wait for you to wake,
it is this promise to you I make

For I will cradle you in my arms,
to protect you from life’s many harms

As your mother my life I would give,
so you my beautiful child should live.
