A Son to His Father

Lying there in his tiny little bed in the nursery
So small yet larger than the others
I dare not wake the gentle sweet soul
Hard to conceive something so small can be complete

Safe and secure in his mothers soothing care
He sleeps a peaceful slumber forgetting all but his hunger
Soon he wakes and like a starving young lion searches for dinner
In sparkling little eyes shines a love so pure for his mother

Look at him, so perfect so soft
I don’t want him to grow up and yet I do
He’s so smart, he’s sure to be a genius
That’s just pride talking but that’s O.K. I’m his daddy
