If the spider incident isn't enough, now we have more to think about. I put
Olivia in the bath today and when she got out she had a red rash all over her
chest and face. I thought I recognized the rash but called the doctor anyway.
The nurse asked if she had had a fever recently and she had-I had just spoken
with them about it a few days ago. Well, she has fifth disease. Great!
She'll be fine with some rest but now I have to go for blood tests to make
sure I don't have it. The disease, a sister to the chicken pox, is a
parvovirus and is spread through the respiratory tract-ie breathing in
droplets or touching mucus and touching your nose etc…the problem for pregnant
women is it can cause a kind of anemia in 2nd and 3rd trimester pregnancies.
There is some controversy around what may happen in 1st and early 2nd
trimester pregnancies. The anemia is similar to that caused by Rh disease and
the baby is monitored for problems by ultrasound. I have to wait for my
results until Friday or so. Lovely!
The baby is kicking up quite a storm. I am experiencing a lot more pressure
in my pelvis now and am sore if I am on my feet all day. My hips are getting
loose and I am a klutz! My chest, however, isn't all that sore. I remember
much more of a change in my breasts last time around. My belly is getting
enormous. I tried to lean over in the car to sip a soda that was overflowing
and my husband hasn't laughed so hard in a long time. I told him to try
leaning over with a beach ball taped to his belly. I got him though…I leaned
SIDEWAYS! Ah, the joys of pregnancy. Aside from being a hormonal wreck this
pregnancy is wonderful!!! Thank the Lord!
