Dealing With a Picky Eater

My son Christian is VERY picky - and I worry that he doesn't get enough, or that he isn't getting the proper things .... but he *does* eat everything - including veggies - at daycare, and I think it has a lot to do with being around the other toddlers.

Another thing we've noticed is that sometimes if he refuses his food, if we give it to him from our plates - he'll eat it ... I know this isn't a good habit to encourage, but it's only seldom ... for the most part he'll either eat something or he won't.


Through the advice of our pediatrician, tons of reading and research, I have compiled the following about dealing with a picky eater:

Be watchful of your baby's diet. Certain nutrients are very important to monitor at this age. They needs iron, calcium, B vitamins and protein, but her picky appetite sometimes makes it difficult to make sure she gets all she needs every day. Foods that are high in important nutrients are listed below. Your baby doesn't need to eat these foods every day, but try to work them into her diet each week.

  • Source of iron: Baby cereal, egg yolks, meat

  • Sources of calcium: Milk, yogurt, cheese, spinach, broccoli, some fish

  • Source of B vitamins: Baby cereal, grain products

  • Sources of protein: Meat and dairy products, legumes
