How I Found Out I Was Pregnant Part 3 of 3
So that's pretty much how we found out, figured out, and confirmed that I was pregnant. Bye bye to our trips around the world. Bye bye to an eagerly anticipated, hard earned, free and unfettered, childless lifestyle.
Throughout my entire pregnancy my husband was nonplussed about the whole thing. He wasn't like other husbands who are all excited about the impending birth. He was extremely attentive and loving towards me, doting on me even more than usual. But he wasn't excited about the baby coming. Sometimes, I was concerned and wondering what it would be like with the baby in our lives, changing everything, and him not expressing any happiness like I thought he should. But then it happened. The baby was born. And everything did change.
As soon as he saw the baby he loved him at once. All my worries were unfounded. He took care of our baby all by himself for the first two weeks because I was such a mess. He is a wonderful papa, thoroughly in love with our baby, and Julian is crazy about his Daddy. He is all that a woman could want in the father of her baby. But from experience, I already knew that.
Oh, I did insist that he take a sperm test. I took the sample to the doctor myself and the doctor called me at work and confirmed that he had a low sperm count. Doc said a lot of those sperm were swimming around kind of funny, but like baseball, it only takes one. Since I was already pregnant I didn't appreciate the fact that they were swimming kind of funny. Sheesh. And I guess the baseball paradigm was lost on me too because my first thought was, "it only takes one? I thought it was three?" (Strikes and you're out.)
So life is full of surprises. But it's good. Life is good and having a baby around is never boring. We're now in league with all the other older parents that there are getting to be more and more of these days. My husband is 56 and I'm 38 now. We know we've been richly blessed with this little one and we're enjoying his company so much. It's great!
I did get my tubes tied though. Hubby volunteered to get another vasectomy, but I said ...I DON'T THINK SO!
You may wonder, how is it that I can possibly recount this whole story in a conversation with a cashier at a checkout stand at the market. Well, here's how that conversation goes...
Cashier: So. You have a little one. Cute. ![]() Visit our Home Page |
