Mom's Share Their Thoughts On Fighting The Urge To Quit
Kenyatta:
I think I can honestly tell you - I have been there. Saying breastfeeding is a learned experience, sometimes just doesn't cover it. For some - it's easy - for others, it's trials and tribulations, and you're right. The only thing that will keep you going is the fact that our infants love it so.I had thrush - twice, and I also had cracked/sore nipples upon arriving home from the hospital, so I can understand the physical pain of it.I don't want to seem as if I am pushing you in anyway by giving you strong encouragement to continue, because the truth is, the growth spurts definitely continue....BUT ... they level off too!...and I swear, you're at the 1/2 way mark. Remeber the growth spurts are every 5-6 weeks or so, and for me, Christian seemed to level off at the 4.5 - 6 month mark...My best advice would be to talk to your doctor, call your LLL representatives if that is an option you want to choose - and TAKE IT DAY BY DAY! If you really feel your body needs a break, maybe you can supplement for a while? Or if you have a pump, maybe you can pump extra milk, and around the 10 week mark, introduce the bottle? When I had thrush the second time, (Christian was about 9-10 weeks) I'd had a lot of stored frozen breastmilk, and I found that pumping was a little easier on me than Christian's nursing, and I had my husband give Christian bottles when we were home, except for the night feedings...and within a day or so, I felt better. Please know that some of us have definitely been there ...and there have been times when the only joy has been knowing the benefits....
