Hmmm...Where to begin. Well, I got pregnant in my junior year of high school. I was 17. I was living with my boyfriend,Chris, and his parents. Chris and I were high school sweethearts. He was a senior.

I had suspected I was pregnant when I was 2 days late. I am NEVER late. He just kept saying, no it's just your nerves from moving out of your parents house. So a few weeks later, I bought a pregnancy test. I took it in the bathroom, and brought it in the bedroom so both of us could watch it. Sure enough, I was. I was laughing hysterically, something I do when I'm nervous, and Chris was shocked out of his gord! But the weird thing was, before we even discussed what we were going to do, he said " Wow, I'm gonna be a DAD." It's not something you would think an 18 year old would say.

Anyway, I ended up switching schools to go to an alternative school to graduate. It was a wonderful program where you could bring your kids to class with you and it was carpeted and furnished with couches, rocking chairs, a kitchen, cribs, highchairs, walkers, toys, and desks for all of us too. If our child was fussing during class, or we just wanted to give it some attention, we could get up from our work anytime and do what we had to do. We had parenting classes, and speakers come in 3 times a week about nutrition, child and infant CPR, and just about being young mothers. It was great. My due date was November 18, 1998. It came and went without one contraction. All the girls in the class had told me about their births. Some were scary, some were beautiful. I remember one girl told me when she was pushing she shit alot. That really freaked me out. My boyfriend was gonna be there, I didn't want to shit in front of him!

So on Wed. the 25th of Nov., I had a docters appointment. My boyfriend was supposed to leave on Dec. 14 to go to boot camp. He had joined the United States Marine Corps. I asked my docter if I could be induced because he was leaving soon, and sure enough she said I was a candidate. She told me to come in that friday night to the hospital. I got into the car with my boyfriend, and he asked how it went, so I nonchalantly said, "We're going in on friday so I can be induced. He looked at me like I was nuts! He was like, OH NO! I Said "what? You thought I was gonna be pregnant forever?" he just laughed. The next day was thanksgiving, and when it was my turn to say what I was thankful for, I said I was thankful to be able to shave my own legs soon!

I went in Friday night, the 27th, and at around, 9:00 pm, they gave me this insert called Cervadil. It was supposed to soften my cervix, and start contractions on my own. Then I went to sleep. At around 1:30 am, I was feeling cramping, and it showed on the moniters strapped on my belly that I was having some little contractions. They didn't really hurt, but it was uncomfortable enough to keep me from sleeping. So I read my "What to expect when your expecting" book, and waited. at around 6 am, I was getting really uncomfortable, so the nurse asked me if I wanted to take a shower, since my water hadn't broke yet. I said ok, and took a long hot shower. The warm water on my belly seemed to ease the pain a lot. I washed my hair with my Thermasilk shampoo and I got out. I took 2 more showers after that, just to ease the pain. It was nice. Then at about 8:30 am they started the pitocin drip.I fine 20 min. then WHAM! A big one hit. I grabbed the bed rail and yelled for some drugs. (I know, I'm a wimp.) They said I couldn't have an epidural until I got to 4 cm, and I was only 2 barely. I was pissed. At about 10 I was bent over in pain, and I felt a pop in my belly, then a small gush of warm liquid. Chris pushed the button for the nurse to come in. They looked under me and said I probably just peed myself, but when the doctor examined me, she confirmed it broke. I stated, politely of course, that I wanted something for the pain, but they couldn't give me an epidural yet, so they gave me demoral. It didn't do jack! They gave it to me twice, and all it did was make me sleep in between the contractions. Around 11 am was when our family and friends started coming in. Chris's granny cried, cause she hated seeing me in such pain, and my dad wouldn't even come in the room, cause he didn't want to see me like that. So for the next few hours, I was doubled over in pain, with the nurses trying to instruct me on my breathing. (I didn't go to lamaze...stupid me). and every time someone went to go up the doses of pitocin, I would give them the look of death, cause that was what was causing me to be in so much pain. Finally at 2:30 pm, I was told I was 4 cm, and I the only thing I could manage out of my mouth was "EPIDURAL!" So the Anesthesiologist came in and strapped that baby on my back and I was good to go. It didn't even hurt cause he did it during a contraction. Then all my family and friends came in for a min. then I went to take a nap, since I hadn't slept hardly at all the night before. At around 3:15 they woke me up and put an oxygen mask on me cause the baby's heart rate went down while I was sleeping. I can't help it, I was snoring! So they checked me while they were in there and said," Well, you're fully dialated, and ready to push!" I was like wow! And chris had just gone down to the cafeteria to get something to eat.

So my docter sat at the end of my bed and my step mom had one leg, and Chris had the other, and she said, ok push. Remembering the horror story in class that I heard, I said "I don't want to poop in front of Chris!" They told me I would have already if I was going to. So I started pushing. This was so easy compared to those horrendous contractions I had! So I guess The head was crowning and they asked if my mom and Chris wanted to see it. They went to look and I pushed them back and said,NO! Then I let them, cause I was sick of being embaressed. A few more pushes, then at 4:41 pm I pushed out a baby girl. They put her on my stomach then Chris cut the cord. While they were cleaning me and her up, he went out to tell everyone he had a daughter! They cleaned me up, and I only needed 1 stitch, cause I tore a little. They weighed my baby and she weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and was 20 inches long! Her apgar score was 9 and she was completely healthy! Chris came in and we sat there with our family and friends and passed the baby around. Everyone sang happy birthday, and the nurse that we told we were having a girl and we named her Julienne, Julie for short, came in with her guitar and started playing "Julie, Julie, Julie, do you love me! Julie, Julie, Julie, do you care!" And the whole room just busted out in song. It was really a wonderful experience.

Me and Chris are now married and moved out of state to live the military life. Julie is 2 years old and expecting a baby brother or sister in July. I'll update you on that one as soon as it comes!
