My Name is Grace Velasquez and my story is about the birth of my son Nathan Aaron Velasquez. It was the first time I had ever given birth vaginally. My first son was c-section 10 years ago and that delivery was not a very good experience. However, when I had my son "Aaron" it was the most exciting time of my life. I'd like to share it with you all.

I was on the pre-term labor program at the hospital that I was going to have my son at because I had been having contraction since my 6th month. Since I was expecting to have Aaron early I suggested my husband carry a pager and that our code for him to hurry home would be 911 911 and no question (I was in labor). Well, August 23rd six days before my due date I got up to use the bathroom as I usually did at 8:00am in the morning. I realized something was different when I never stopped .... I just kept going and going and going. I stood up to take a look at the fluid leaking from my body and noticed that I was bleeding also. My water bag had broken..... yippy I was in labor or going to have the baby today... Yea' right!

I must have paged Nathan about 100 times to have no response, no call, no anything.... So, I called his boss and told him to let Nathan know that his wife was going to the Hospital now to have his son. (Bring on the guilt! :0). After I hung up I realized I was alone but, thought I don't even feel a thing maybe I could drive myself. Well, I thought about it again and called my sister. My sister was running back and forth to the hospital because that day my mother was having an operation because she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a month before. My sister has three little ones and when she pick me up they were all with her.... I told her to just drop me off and I would walk up by myself that I felt fine. When we got the hospital about a 1/2 hour after my water bag broke, I tried to walk.. Well, I only took two steps and BOY O'BOY ... Where was Nathan!!!!! I began to have bad contractions.

Two Hours later...... hmmmm! not happy, Nathan comes running in. I wasn't happy to see him on the outside but, in the inside I was relieved. Labor was going slow so they thought that I needed meds to speed the process up...Boy did that do the job. I was in pain like I had never known. At about 9:00p.m. I was only 6cm dilated but, I was happy because I would be able to get the epidural now and I wasted no time in getting it. I believe it was about Midnight that Aaron began to have problems with his heart rate it would drop each time that they took me off the pain meds and the contraction were allowed to help me dilate. So, the nursed kept putting me right back on a constant drip. At one time I had 4 nurses and 5 doctors in my room because they thought I wasn't going to be able to give birth as I had planned and that maybe a c-section would be best. At this point I didn't care, I wanted my son out of my body anyway they could get him out. But, This nurse (I will call her an Angel) because if it wasn't for her and of course my husband I don't think I would have been able to do it. Angel kept telling me when to push and when to relax. even when to breathe.

At 2:30, I was 10cm and it was time to see my son. Angel ran to get a mirror so that I could see Aaron come out but, the 1st push I gave after the Dr. gave me a episiotomy I closed my eyes and out came Aaron and then his whole body followed. I looked over to Nathan and saw him jump up as though he was shocked. He said that he thought that Aaron's head was smaller then it was and he was surprised to see his head pop out and his eyes and lips were swollen I was laughing when he said that. Anyway at 2:31am, on the August 24th, my son was born, 7lbs 7oz and 19inches..... Perfect.

I am 7months pregnant and Aaron is just over 2years old now!!! I will share with you again in 3months or so.
