Birth Stories - Premature Birth Stories

My name is Kim and my daughter was born at 28 weeks gestation. I was hospitalized for 49 days due to ruptured membranes. At 21 weeks my water broke at 1:10 a.m. and we immediately drove 50 minuets to our hospital. I was admitted and put on a monitor. They did an ultrasound and found that the amniotic fluid was 6 - 10 to 20 being normal. The moment I will always remember was when our doctor informed us that I would be hospitalized the remainder of my pregnancy. It was a long seven weeks but, my husband spend every moment he could by my side. He is a teacher and assistant athletic director so it was possible for him to work in the mornings and spend the afternoons and all night by my side. He was my rock.

At twenty eight weeks and two days our daughter decided she was better off outside than inside of me. I had an emergency c-section and Catherine Grace was born weighing 1lb. and 15oz. and was 13 inches long. She was more beautiful than she was small. She did wonderfully and we had no set backs. I spend 14 to 16 hours a day by her side. It was as if someone opened my chest, removed my heart and placed it in an isolet. The only place I felt whole was with her. When I had to make my 50 minute drive home from the hospital I spent the entire drive crying and praying for her to be o.k. It was like nothing I have ever been through. I felt bonded to the other parents because they were the only other people who knew what I was going through, not my mother or sisters or friends. I felt like an outsider out side of the NICU.

My Catey is now 21 months old and the most determined child I have ever seen (thank God). I wanted to tell my story because I still think of this whole experience everyday and wanted to meet other moms who have been through something similar. Please feel free e-mail me back.
