It was the afternoon of January 5, 1998. I was at home with my two older children resting when I felt a mild contraction. At first I just blew it off because the baby was not due for another 4 weeks. After two of three contractions they became painful so I began to time them. They started about 5 minutes apart (Beginning at 1:30).

I called my doctor and he said that they don't send people to the hospital until they have had contractions for 2-3 hours and since I had only had them for 15 minutes to sit tight for a while. I called my husband anyway and had him head for home, then called my mother to come and get the boys. By the time my mom and husband arrived the contractions were about 3 minutes apart. We called the doctor again and told him we were going to the hospital even though I had only had contractions for 45 minutes.

By the time we arrived (Between 2:30 and 3:00) the contractions were down right painful. The nurse came in and checked me I was dialated to 5. I was told that they could not stop the labor and this was the real thing. I lay there praying the baby would be ok and that they would give me something for the pain.

I was wheeled to the delivery room at 3:30 or 4:00 and I was dialated to 6. In the 10 minutes it took to be wheeled to delivery the baby's head had crowned. With a few minutes of confusion (the doctor wasn't even there yet) they found someont to deliver the baby, I gave 2 big pushes and out came the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.

Cassidy Mae was born at 4:34pm on January 5,1998. She weighed 6lbs. 4oz. and was 19 inches long. She was perfect. For the next 12 hours she was in NIM (neonatal intermediate nursery) but was doing good. We were allowed to take her home when I was discharged. She is now 18 monthes old and has never been sick once. By about 12 monthes she had caught up with other kids her age in most moter skills and is now all caught up.
