Nicolas was to be our first child. At 31 weeks, I was put on bedrest because he thought he wanted to make an early appearance. I was 80% effaced and dilated to 1. The weeks went by, and I was very happy each day I woke up and he was still growing inside. Well, I thought for sure at 37 weeks, when the doctor let me get off bedrest, that Nicolas would come then. By that time I was fully effaced and dilated to 3, but I seemed to be stuck! Well, 40 weeks came and went. At 41 weeks, we decided to induce. We arrived at the hospital at 8 am, without any sleep needless to say. My pitosin was started around 9 and the contractions started regularly at 2 minutes apart. Not too painful though, nothing breathing could not get me through. My husband crawled in bed with me and helped me through. At 10, the doctor came in to break my water, NOW THAT WAS REAL LABOR!! Those contractions really started to hurt now, but was trying my best to do without pain meds. Well, I started to get nauseous, and my nurse told me that if I threw up so would she!! This was about 12:30. I gave in and got the epidural, when I was to 8 cm. I surprised the nurse when she checked me, things were going so fast!! She paged the doctor, and by the time he showed up, babys head was crowning! He barely had time to scrub up. My legs fell out of the stirrups, and I did not even know it! HEE HEE 25 minutes of pushing, 1:50 pm, Nicolas was born, his tiny butt cradled in my arms as he let out his first yells of life! At that point I told my husband I wanted to do it 10 more times. Isn't this where most women say "never again"!? I can't wait to have another baby, I hope its as wonderful next time!
