I awoke at 3:30 in the morning to start getting ready for work. I started to notice small pains in my abdomen while eating breakfast, they were like real light cramps. I didn't think anything of it because I was only 37 1/2 weeks & everyone told me that a first born could take hours. My own doctor told me that I could have painful contractions for DAYS before I went into labor!

I proceeded to go and get ready for work. At 4:30 I left the house. I got to work and clocked in about quarter to 6am. Still having these mild "cramps", but they were not painful and very irregular. I worked for a few hours, then started to get a little worried. I told some women at work that I was going to go home and rest. They encouraged me to stop at the hospital on the way. I called my mom from the parking lot to let her know that I was coming home, but stopping at the hospital first. She decided that she better take the day off and I was to call her from the hospital and let her know what was going on.

I drove myself to the hospital. On the way, getting stuck behind a school bus picking up children. I admitted myself at 8:43 am. The nurse put me on the normal monitors. I sat in that room by myself for 2 hours, having contractions closer & closer. My mother & aunt called the hospital to see if I was coming home or staying.

My doctor checked my cervix and realized that I was 5 cm dilated, I was 95% effaced and the head was way down and dropped. He told me to walk a little, I may deliver around dinner time, he said that I should dilate around 1 cm. per hour, so I had time. So I started to walk the halls (by myself) then my mother and aunt showed up at 11:10. I walked around the small "block" twice, dropping to my hands and knees in a dog position for each contraction while my aunt rubbed my back. The contractions were now very painful. The I only had about 5 or 6 hard contractions before I went back into the "monitor" room. The nurses started filling the jacuzzi for me, but only got the jacuzzi half full. I went to my knees for another contraction and my water broke.

I was rushed into my birthing room. I was again checked & the baby was ready to meet the world. I laid on the bed and took a yoga position bringing my feet up to my forehead and pushing. My baby was born by noon. I was in the hospital 3 hrs. and 17 min. and I had delivered! No painkillers. It was beautiful.

Blake was 5 lb. 9oz. 19" long. Born at 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 9, 2001. Small baby from a small mamma. (112lbs for me when I delivered) Blake is super strong and a great eater!
