Benny and I had been married for five years when we decided the time was right for us to start a family. I got pregnant after being off the pill for three months. We were thrilled. Pregnancy went smoothly, I had morning sickness the first couple of months, had a great time being pregnant.
Week past my due date, at 11:30 pm my water broke. I was getting up out of our recliner when I felt a pop and warm water ran down my leg.I ran and woke Benny up. He thought I had wet on my self!
We went to the hospitol and I was checked. My water had broken and I was only dilated 1cm.
Nurse assured me contractions would start soon, they never did.
@ 7:00am
Dr applied prostaglondin gel and started a drip. It did not take long and I was feeling some contractions. I experienced pain in my lower pelvic and on the outside of my hips and thighs. I was so glad I was not having the dreaded back labor.
@ noon
I had dilated to 3cm. I used Demoral to help manage pain and get some rest. I finally made it to 6cm
@ 6:00pm
I was giving an epirdual. It did not hurt at all, never knew when he put the needle in. I was hanging on to the nurse who kept me focused on her. She praised me and told me that I was doing great. I had some relief now and I went to sleep.
I woke up @ 9:00 feeling pressure, Dr checked and I was at 10cm finally. I was told to push. I thought "push??" I had been only thinking about dilating that I forgot I was going to have to do any pushing. After pushing for 30 minutes with the baby not coming down, Dr used forceps and pulled my son out at 9:55, Febuary 22,1996,he weighed 8lbs 10 oz and was 21 inches long.
Dr had cut me and I still ripped down to my rectum, It took him 45 minutes to sew me up. Lane was not well, he was put under an oxygen hood and an I.V was started on him. His apgar at birth was 5 then an 8 he tested positive for Group B Strep and was med flighted to a larger hospitol and put in NNICU when he was three days old. He was given antibiotics and released at six days old. Home Health nurses from the hospitol that he was born at came and gave him his last round of meds.
I had been tested in early preg. for GBS and the results were neg. Lane was infected due to my water breaking and him not being born for 23hrs. I have read that a woman should deliver within 12 hrs of her water breaking to decrease the chance of infections. I do not use this Dr anymore I blame him for the heartache we were caused in Lanes first few days of life, but everything turned out perfect.
We have a almost three year old who has given us so much happiness. He has no problems from having GBS. He is a smart, handsome, talkative and outgoing little booger.
