Birth Stories - Multiple Births Stories

I hope I can remember that far back, it's only been 2 1/2 years but is seems eons ago.

Well, I should start out by telling you I had triplets, One of the more unique stories you'll get I'm sure. My entire pregnancy was one to remember but the delivery was a party!!!

My water broke at 34 weeks gestation, 3:00 am on Feb. 1, 1995. (My mom loves the Feb. birth stone and she kept telling me to hold off until Feb. so she had an excuse to buy more of that birth stone.) I made it by the skin of my teeth!

I called my OB, drug him out of bed and asked him if he was ready. He said "Ready or not here they come!!!" When my water broke, I screamed at my husband who was in a dead sleep (how dare he get any rest!) He jumped out of bed like someone shot him out of a cannon. He kept asking me if he should take a shower. He was running around like a chicken with his head cut off.

An hour later, we were on our way to the hospital. All the nurses were so excited! (We got to be pretty good friends, I had many hospital visits during my pregnancy for premature labor.) The operating room was a zoo! There was 2 neonatologists, 2 OB's, one OB nurse per baby, 2 neo-nurses per baby, students, other nurses "just in case and taking pictures" and oh yeah, me and my husband! It was the first time I laid on my back in months (I had a c-cection).

My husband kept looking over the curtain and making funny faces and my OB was complaining about how his mother never got him braces for his teeth when he was a kid so now he had to wear them as an adult, while he was cutting away. Through my entire pregnancy I was terrified of this day because I new I was having a section and the thought of being opened up while I was awake grossed me out but when I was there, I just wanted to see my babies.

I was so uncomfortable being pregnant it was a relief to have the babies out. The section itself wasn't to bad, not like what I had imagined. I had terrible heart burn the last few months, water gave me heart burn, I guzzled gallons of mylanta. The second my son was born (the first baby), the heart burn was gone! I mean gone! Although he still gives me heart burn to this day. He weighed 3# 8oz, his name is Alexander Ryan (baby "A"). My OB was very suprised at his weight, I think he thought he would be bigger because the ultrasound had him at about 4 1/2#.

There was a nurse pushing on my belly to push the second baby down (baby "B"). I didn't know the sex of this baby before hand like I knew the other two. I thought it was a boy but it turned out to be a girl, Lauren Nichole who weighed 5#. (she was supposed to be "Benjamin" for baby "B" and we couldn't find a "B" girls name we liked so we both agreed an Lauren).

Last, but not least, was Caitlin Marie (baby "C") who weighed 4# 6oz.

I don't know if I heard Alex cry, I think they wisked him off to the NICU. I remember seeing my girls bundled up in pink hats and blankets. They were so beautiful!!! I remember laying there feeling so happy I don't remember my husband leaving to tell the family members waiting outside the news.

I was in recovery and this drop dead georgous man came over and introduced himself. He is my pediatrition! What a lucky and unforgetable day :) And I looked like hell!!!

My babies were born at 6:35, 6:36 and 6:37 am. The girls spent 3 weeks in the hospital and Alex spent 5. I am so lucky to have them, I thank God every day, even when they rip my house apart, fight over the same stupid toy, especially when we have 3 of the same toy, color on the walls and demand to watch the same movie over and over and over....again in the same day. I would do it all over again.

Thanks for reading and triggering some very special memories and moments in our lives. Hope I was helpful. Feel free to E-mail me if you have any other questions, I would be more than happy to reminisce.
