Mikey's Birth Story
By Eleanor McLean

I had a very easy pregnancy except for worry over weight gain, which in the end wound up being my son!!! The doctor thought that my baby would be small (I thought different given family history) because I am only 5'2". They got a big surprise when they did an ultra sound 3 weeks before my due date and discovered he was already close to 9 pounds!

Needless to say, they decided to induce me. He was born at 9 lbs 2.5 oz. If I had gone to term, he would have been over 10 pounds!! I lost all of the weight (since most of the 35 pounds was HIM!) in just about 6 weeks.

One thing I like to tell pregnant women is that even if they lose the weight quickly, they may not fit into their old clothes right away. It sometimes takes time for all your bones (i.e. HIPS) to go back into place and to firm up. I gave away my favorite skirt and it would have fit me about six months after Mikey's birth.

Most of all if any pregnant woman asks about my sons birth I like to tell them that yes there was pain -- I won't lie, but after he emerged it was like a light switch turned off the pain and turned on the best feeling of well being I had ever experienced. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
