Madison's Birth Story
By Madison's Mom

My birth story is not long, but it is one I will never forget.

On March 4, 1997 I went to see my doctor, and I sat there on the exam table with my feet turning purple and he asked me how I felt. I replied I can not wait for this to be over, and he laid me back and checked me for dilation. He did not say anything and he sat me up. Then he said okay you want to end this? I replied with a funny voice, yes, and he said okay. You are dilated to four and 80% effaced, go home and get your stuff together, go to the hospital and I will be there at five. I sat in his office and cried and he replied, what is your problem? I sobbed back that I was scared and he laughed and said "You are an old pro, remember, this is your 3rd time."

So he patted me on the back and said not to worry he would be there the whole time and soon after the pain started it too would end and my beautiful Madison would be here. So I went home and called my husband at work, the girls there said he just turned white. I was strong for him but when I called my step mom, I cried like my baby soon would. She went with me to check into the hospital and they were packed, they put me in a holding room in L & D and it was hot in there.

My contractions started on there own and finally after waiting until 5:30 Dr Seigeil came in. He sent me walking while they were getting a room ready for me. Finally at 6:45 pm he broke my water and I cried wanting to just wait a while.

Within minutes I was in labor with contractions at 2 minutes apart. He had inserted the fetal monitor into her head and also something else in me to keep my contracitons under watch better than the external monitor.

Well they were showing up good until I got up and went to the bathroom. He did not know that, he went to eat. When he came back I was moaning and telling him how bad it hurt and he said the monitor was not reading strong contractions, and my step mom replied that I must be tired. Well, to everyone's knowledge the damn thing had come dislodged when I went to the bathroom. I was then put on Pit drip and moaned even more.

Telling my husbad he best love me. The poor guy looked ill. He reassured me after every pain. At 9:15 I said thats it, I want an epidural, and after reading the papers I looked at Dr. Seigeil I told him it hurt, he said I know it hurts. I said no you fool, I feel like I gotta push.

He checked me and looked at me and said, there will be no epidural because you are at 10. I said who cares lets end this. So we ran to delivery (I was pushed quickly) and after asking the doctor if he thought he was someone special and telling him this was all his fault, I bent between my legs looked at him and yelled a few times and out she came.

A beautiful 7 lb 3 oz girl was crying. I too shed my tears in joy as my husband held me a told me how much he loved me. Then he took the baby first!!!! We both cuddled her and cried. After nine months something so perfect and so innocent was now mine. Mine to love forever and cherish.

My labor hurt and I do not forget the pain of this one. I would not choose to be induced again. To all you expectant moms a word of advice. Be calm, remember what you are getting with all the pain and try and relax. The more you relax, the quicker things will go. One good point, my doctor calls me his wonder woman, I took no pain medicine in the hospital, not even Tylenol.
