I was to go to the doctor again on November 8th. I had high blood pressure and the doc wanted to keep an eye on it. He had told me a couple days earlier that if the blood pressure was high again then he would probably send me to the hospital to have the baby induced. Well sure enough on the 8th of November (eleven days before my due date) I was going to be induced.
I went home from the doctors office to eat my last meal and get things ready. Then at about four o'clock we headed off to the hospital. We dropped off our other two girls and arrived at the hospital at about five o'clock. I gave my pee sample and put on the hospital gown. They got me all hooked up to the machines and I layed there until someone came in. At six o'clock p.m. the doctor came in and broke my water. I had been at 3 centimeters for 2 days and I was 60% thined so It didnt take much to bring on my labor. About three minutes after my water was broke the contractions started at 2-3 minutes apart. They werent to intense but they got bad quick. At about seven thirty I asked the nurse to check me again. She did and I was 5-6 centimeters. I thought that was pretty good progress but I was in a lot of pain by now and I was ready for my epidural. The doctor decided I could have it. Im not sure how much time passed but by the time my epidural was in it was almost ten o'clock. It took them a half an hour to put the epidural in because Its hard to put them in my back. (thats what they told me) I had to sit hunched over on the bed for 30 minutes with contractions 2 minutes apart. Boy did they hurt and I wasnt allowed to move. I didnt know it then but I was in transition while they put the epidural in. When it was finally ok to lay back down the nurse checked me again and the babies head was right there. I had totally gone through the hardest part of labor during the epidrual scene. At least I didnt have to feel the baby coming out (ouch). So the doctor came and I gave about 10 short hard pushes and Matthew Brian was born at 9:59 p.m. It was almost exactly four hours after they broke my water.
I got to hold all seven pounds fourteen ounces of him first before anyone. He was all bloody and grose but I didnt care. He was so sweet. He was 20 1/2 inches long. I ripped a little zig zag rip but that was it. It did require stitches. The only bad thing is my blood pressure didnt go down. I had to stay in the hospital for two nights and get blood pressure medication. It was terrible. At least I didnt have the spinal headache this time. I did have bad headaches but nothing like the last baby.
So overall it was a great birth. It took me about 2-3 weeks to get my energy back. Plus after you have babies you just feel sick. So after I felt better I was able to enjoy my little boy much better. My girls love him. They are really enjoying having a brother. The 19 month old (Victoria) has a hard time sometimes but that is to be expected. Chelsea (three years old) is really good with him. We are so happy to have him in our family.
