Shortly after I found out I was pregnant, I began having severe bouts with nausea which left me dehydrated. I was sick day and night. I was looking forward to the day when the nausea would end. Well...it did and then a couple of weeks later I began experiencing terrible back pain.

I told my husband and mother and they insisted that it was normal and I should just relax. However, the pain continued to increase in intensity so I insisted that my husband take me to the hospital. I was taken to L & R and monitored. They decided it was nothing and sent my home. The pain became intolerable the next day so I returned to the hospital in tears. They decided that I may have a kidney stone. An ultrasound confirmed their suspicion and I remained in the hospital for a week waiting for the stone to pass. It finally did. I thought that everything would be fine now.

Wrong again, one week after I was released from the hospital I began bleeding. After several tests and an ultrasound it was determined that I had a torn excess placenta. That was a real joy, through out the remainder of my pregnancy, I would start to bleed and I would have to return to the hospital for overnight observation. Finally, during one of my visits to the doctor they took my blood pressure and it was high so they asked me to lie down for a bit so they could retake it. They did and it was still too high. This was still 4 weeks before my due date. The doctor rushed in and said that I would be having the baby that day. He told me to go straight to the hospital and prepare to have my labor induced.

My husband was no where to be found. My parents were at work and I was terrified. I finally reached my mother and she came to the hospital. They admitted me and started and IV. I wasn't allowed to get out of bed and I was ordered to stay on my left side so my blood pressure would not rise. They started the pitocin and we waited. My blood pressure was now 240/160 and my mother was concerned that I may have a stroke.

I was watching the monitors and the babys heartbeat would slow each time I had a contraction. The doctor rushed in and said that they had to get the baby out right then because she was in distress. I was a tad distressed at this point myself.

First he tried to use the suction but that didn't work. Then, he decided to use the forceps. Two nurses were pushing on my stomach and the doctor pulled my baby girl out and me half way off the table. But at last I had my beautiful daughter. She weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz. and was 21 inches long. My blood pressure remained high and I had to stay in the labor room.

I don't remember much about the first hours of my daughter's life because I was delerious from the high blood pressure. I was ordered to stay in bed. I did finally get to see my daughter and she was beautiful.

We named her Kaitlin Amber but we should have named her Angel because that's what she is. It was all worth it. She will be 3 in August and I am now 7 months pregnant with her baby brother. However, this pregnancy has been uneventful. Thank goodness.
