I was sitting in church on March 8th while my older son was in Sunday school. It was our weekly thing to do, he went to school and I would go to church for an hour. About 15 minutes after mass had started, I felt my stomach tightning on and off for awhile. This is what it was like with my first so I started to time them. I was already two minutes apart. I couldn't believe it. They didn't hurt at all like with the first. So I waited until church was over and went to get my son and drove my sister to her house and I decided to stay with her at my mom's because my husband (Rick) was at bowling for another hour so I didn't want to be at my house with just Derek. Just in case something like my waters would break, I wanted someone else there.
I sat with my mom for awhile and chatted and timed them some more and for the next hour they stayed at two minutes apart. We decided to call my doctor who wasn't on call but they paged her anyway. She called me back right away and she told me to come in and get checked just in case. I paged my husband and when he called back, I calmly told him to stop at the house and get my overnight bag just in case, and to come and get me at my mom's. Well he got to her house in 15 minutes when it should have taken 30! My mom followed us with my dad but they couldn't keep up with us. Rick was doing over 80mph and I told him to slow down because I knew it would take awhile to actually have this baby. We arrived at the hospital safely and checked in upstairs and the nurse checked me and said that I was only dialated at two, which I was at two weeks ago. So she said to walk for an hour and if that didn't move anything then we could go home. We walked and it seemed like we were walking for hours. But it wasn't.
I went back upstairs and when she checked me again, my dialation went to 3. She said that we were staying and we went to find our room.
The labor still hadn't gotten to bad by the time I was at 6cm. I used the Cubs game on tv for my focal point but that soon ended. It did help though. Rick and my mom stayed and my dad left for some sleep, he works very early in the morning.
Around 11pm I was fully dialated and the pain started to get worse. I was holding my breath for awhile during each contraction and the nurse found me doing this and yelled at me. Sorry, I don't like pain much.
By 12pm I got the urge use the bathroom and they said that it was time to push. I didn't like the sound of that. Everything had been so easy until then, but this I didn't want. I got into the pushing position and started pushing, his head started to crown, they were yelling at me to push harder and they really really hurt. I had to have an episiotomy because his head was so big. Finally the big boy came out. A total of 15hrs of labor.
Zachory was born at exactly 1:05am on March 9th, weighing in at 8lbs 9oz, 21in long. Like I said, big boy. My mom and my husband went home around 3am to let me have some sleep. Little did I know that when I woke up 3 hours later, there was 8in of snow on the ground. I told everyone that Zach just wanted everyone know that he made it here.
Zach is now almost a year old and is catching up to his older brother rather quickly. He now weighs in at 26lbs!! His bother is 4yr and is 35 lbs. He better watch out!!
