My labour started out in the middle of the night, light contractions simalar to menstrual cramps. Around 9am Thursday, my husband and I thought we would have a warm shower to help relieve some of the pain. Contractions were about ten minutes apart and getting closer and closer, so we got ready and headed towards the hosipal. Contractons five minutes, and getting stronger. This was our first preganacy so we though our new baby was close at hand, Wrong.

We we taken to the check in room where they see how strong the contraction are and if your dialated. We'll I had good contractions but no dialation. They also told me that my water had broken so I wasn't allowed to take baths, I was lucky I didin't even know when my water broke.. So we were told go for a four hour walk.

A little diapointed that we were still so far we went for our walk. Two minutes apart buy the end of our walk we felt better, now were getting somewhere. Back at the hospital they checked, no change in the dialation. We walked around the halls and I took showers anything we could think of. The pain got stronger and stronger and walking around wasn't something I could do.

They put us in a dark quiet room to try to get some sleep. By this time it was about 11pm Thursday and the nurse said that I was maybe dialited 3cm. Resting off and on through the night, Friday wasn't much better, showers and short walks were all I could do. The tried to put some jelly to induce me but still just painful contraction.

Around 5pm they tryed jelly again and I dialated to 8cm so they brough me to the delivery room the doctor was called and the nurses were buzzing around. They gave me some gas because I was having trouble holding back my pushing. The doctor wanted to wait as long as posible because I was still only 9cm. She wanted 10cm. She had asked me to give one push and then to stop. She called over one of the nurses and asked her to get someone. She told us that we were looking at a c-setion because the baby's head was twisted.

The specialist came running into the room and checked me over, he asked me to give three strong pushes. 'There' he said "you're fine!. Pushing helped straighten the baby out. The doctor told me to push wenever I felt the urge. At 6:59 pm, Friday my son was born. But our fun wasn't over.

Because my water had broke so long ago they were worried the my son might have ingested some of his poo. So they took him right away into the nursery to give him antibiotics. I never got to hold him, but they said this was for the best. He had to stay in a incubator for three days, which was very hard cause you can only touch him through a little hole in the side. On the third night, my husband and I were able to hold him for the first time.

I never felt so happy and relieved at the same time. Everything was alright. My son and I were able to leave the hosipal the next day. My son Ty Micheal Sather is 21 months, and he has never stopped bring joy to our lives. We are expecting our next child in three months and even though my labour wasn't what we were expecting, the joy he brings makes all the pain go away.
