I woke up on March 30 , Easter Sunday ,1997 with contractions. Woke up my husband and went into the kitchen. I was standing there when I felt a trickle down my leg, so I called my student midwife (by the way the trickle turned out to be urine).

Here is what happened next:

9:15 am -midwife announces me 5 cm. and 80 % effaced, with membranes intact.

The next few hours I spend walking around. I couldn't sit down or my contractions would cease. All of my midwives (primary, back up and student were present by 10:30 am.).

12:46 pm - 8 cm. and 80 % dilated, membranes are bulging and I sound like a dieing walrus. I decide not to break my waters.

1:40 pm - no change and I get hysterical. I agree to have my waters broken. My husband is my saviour at this time.

2:15 pm - fully dilated and told to push if I want to. Well , I don't want to and don't have the urge to push. I yell at my midwife to take it out.

2:24 pm - I have been talked into pushing. This is hell compared with my first birth experinence.

2:28 pm - head is out

2:29 pm - midwife is pushing on my belly trying to help ease the baby out. It didn't help , so I roll over on my hands and knees and with one good push baby slides out.

Nolan Tadeusz was born in our bedroom and he weighed in at 8 lbs. and 10 ozs. He was 55 cm. long and his head circumfrence was 13.5 cm. This was my second birth and it was twice as long and hard as the first one. The pushing was hard - maybe because it was so short- 5 minutes in total. I was very happy with this birth, although I was somewhat shocked for a while because I expected everything to be easier second time around and it wasn't.
