After two 1/2 years of trying for a child my husband and I were finally pregnant. At six months I was put on full bed rest because of an incompetent cervix I was already 80% efface and had gestational diabetes.

For the diabetes I had to give myself 3 insulin shots a day. When I was 32 weeks, it was in the middle of a snow storm which had already accumulated 2 feet of snow at 4:30 a.m., I went into premature labor. A 5 minute trip to the hospital took 30. When I got to the hospital my contractions were 3 minutes apart and I had just started to dilate. They gave me a shot to stop the contractions and a shot of betamethasome to help develop the baby's lungs.

From that day till my delivery I went to the hospital Mondays for a non stress test and biophysical profile which is no more than a sonogram that they take measurements of the baby, and another non stress test on Fridays. I did this until I was admitted again at 35 weeks. At 35 weeks I was admitted to the hospital with hypertension. My husband and my sister-in-law were both my coaches (my sister-in-law was also pregnant and due any day).

On March 31 at 4:30 a.m. the labor started. At 6:00 a.m. my Angie (my sister-in-law) and my brother show at the hospital and to my surprise she was in labor. Of the eight rooms in the maternity ward all eight were filled with women in labor. At 3:25 p.m. Angie delivered a 9 lb. 2 oz baby boy. Mean while in I am in the next room with contractions three minutes apart not dilated more than a dimple.

The pediatrician decided that he didn't want me to be induced till the next morning because of only being 35 weeks' pregnant. They did however, give me the gel that is supposed to help you dilate. The DR tells me that it works for some and others don't feel a thing. By the time he left the room 5 minutes later the had contractions started. So they gave me a shot for pain and two sleeping pills.

Left me go until 11:00 a.m. on April 1st and then they induced me, at 1:00 p.m. I was at 3 cementers and they gave me the epidural. I sent my husband home for a shower because they told me that I wouldn't deliver till later in the evening. I slept till around 4:00 when I woke up to even stronger contractions.

I called a nurse, without checking me she called the anesthesiologist for a shot in the epidural. The DR gave me the shot and hung around for a while after 10 minutes and the contractions didn't ease, he asked when the checked me last when I told him not since the epidural was put in he ran for a nurse. The nurse came in and checked me, she left the room without saying anything, seconds later her and another nurse came running in with all this stuff and told me to start pushing.

I panicked. Dan wasn't back and they told me I didn't have time to call him. After a few pushes the told me to call him, but he wasn't home so I called Dan's sister, Kathy, who was only a few minutes away and told her I need her. I started pushing again and in walks Dan at 4:30 only to see DR confer there and the baby was on her way. Kathy followed him in.

I had so much trouble pushing I couldn't feel a thing in fact I was dosing between contractions and I would wake up and ask if I should push.

Finally the doctor got the forceps and with the last push this tiny 5 LB 11 oz 18 inch baby girl was here at 4:56pm. The epidural was nice to not feel a thing, but I couldn't remember anything about my daughter. Today Hannah Mae is a healthy 11 LB 10 oz and 22 inch little girl. She is truly our little miracle!!!!!
