I started having contractions around 2:45 p.m. on April 14, 1999. The twins were due April 9th. The contractions weren't very painful and were a good time apart.

My husband and I were home with my son and daughter. We were planning a home birth anyway, but we found out how much I was dialated. I was only about 3 cm so far.

About 20 minutes later, one of the waters broke and the contractions started getting severe. The other water broke about 10 or 20 minutes later. I was in a great deal of pain lying on the floor in our family room on a towel in my husbands arms. My son and daughter looked terrified watching from the kitchen. I could barely take the pain anymore, and my husband asked if I wanted to go in the water for a bit.

I replied saying I wanted to deliver in the water! We moved into the kitchen and set the tub filled in the center. My daughter (5) sat down beside the tub and held my hand. My son (3) went into the dining room to hide. My husband put on soft music and my daughter was trying to sing along! By this time I was 9 cm dialated and I wanted to start pushing.

My husband gave the ok and I started. The babies were both (thankfully) head down. We didn't know the sex of them, so I was anxious to find out. In between the contractions, (which wasn't very long) my daughter kept telling me that it was ok and the babies were going to be out in a minute. She was so helpful in helping me relax.

A couple minutes later, the first baby's head was almost out. I felt the head and it felt so soft. It was amazing. I gave a couple more hard and long pushes and she was out! She was beatiful and had powerful lungs! She was very healthy and my sister (who had arrived earlier) held her while I got the other one out.

I pushed for a long time and nothing happened. After a good half hour or so, the second baby's head came out, a couple difficult pushes later, she was out!

She was just like her sister! We named them Jennifer Marie and Sarah Michelle. They are very beatiful and healthy to this day. When they are a bit older, my husband and I are definatly going for another one.
