Harley Jo's Birth Story
By Bobbie Schaefer

I had my first child when I was 19. Brian was born on December 23, 1993. After 23 hours of labor five of it was hard, hard labor the doctor decided to do a emergency C-section. All went fine and Brian Scott was born at 12:45pm on December 23 weighing 9lbs. 15 oz.!

Then 3 years later, I found out on Christmas eve I was going to have another baby. I went to the doctors and was already 31/2 months along. I hadnt gained any weight as of then but then, from about the 5 month the pregnacy, hell kicked in. My blood sugar went sky high and I tried controling it with a diet of no sugar but it didn't work so I had to give myself insulin shots until the end of the term..

While taking the insulin, I balloned up and gained 50 pounds, and was sick all the time. During the last month I was not going anywhere. I got up from my lazy boy to go to the bathroom and back...but I had to walk with a walker to get that far. I was so miserable.

I had to go twice a week for a stress test and one day I went in and got hooked up and the nurse said "you're having contractions". So I was sent to the hostipal where I was delievering and was there all day and they ended up sending me home ...I went back and forth to the hostipal 4 times with hard contractions before I had the baby.

Finally I put my foot down and told the doctor I couldn't stand anymore of the contractions or of the walking because I could hardly walk. So he sheduled a amniocentisis to be done. And I tell you, I thought that was the most painful thing I have ever had done.

The test came back and told me she was more than mature enough to be born, so the next day I was shecduled for a C-section at 8:00am on June 14th 1996.

I went into the surgery room and at 9:04 am Harley Jo came into this world. She was 21 1/2 inches long and weighed 11lbs. 11oz. People would come up off of different floors of the hostipal just to see the big baby. She was the biggest they had had there.

And today she is 1 year old and walking and getting all over. And she only weighs 21 pounds now. So after all the pain and troubles I had having her, I would do it all over again to get her.
