Emily's Birth Story
By Julie

My husband and I got pregnant with Emily Marie in June 1995. My due date was February 28, 1996. I went in at 8 weeks for my first pre-natal visit. The doctor did an ultrasound because my uterus seemed smaller than the time that she calculated. Everything was fine though. The pregnancy went well until the 36th week. I was then diagnosed with Hypertension. I went in for several stress tests and everything was alright with Emily every time. It was February 13 and the doctor said, "Let's induce you on Friday, February 16, 1996". this would be a week and a half early. So it was set, we would be induced at 6 a.m. on the 16th.

Friday, February 16, 1996, it was snowing and I wasn't nervous at all. That's because I had been nervous the night before. We check in to labor and delivery at 6 a.m. and they get me all hooked up with Pitocin and IVs. Another doctor in the practice came in and had to break my water because my doctor was stuck in the snow storm but would be in the delivery my baby. My water was broke at 8:30 a.m. I was 1 and 1/2 cm dilated and 100% effaced. Labor started pretty fast and heavy. I asked for pain killer at 9 a.m. (I am a wimp when it comes to pain). I was given Nubane, which did absolutely nothing except make me feel so drugged up the I couldn't even speak and it didn't touch the pain. I had dilated to 3 cm. and I asked for the epidural at 10 a.m., but had to wait because the doctor was doing 2 C-sections and I had to wait. I finally got the epidural at 10:45 a.m. The epidural hurt going in but only on a few seconds and it was worth getting that instead of labor pains. I was a little nervious about it because I have scoliosis of the spine and didn't like the idea of a needle being put in my spine. But that worry quickly left my mind when the labor pains began.

Epidural at 10:45 a.m. and labor is going well because I DON'T FEEL A THING. For some women an epidural will slow down labor, but not me, I dilated to 10 by noon. I did practice pushes for 45 minutes, then the doctor came in and said, "Let's do this." I pushed 4 times and had to have an episiotomy because I had a 3rd degree tear (which got me another day in the hospital that insurance wouldn't have allowed). Emily Marie was born at 2:25 p.m. weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz. and she was 191/2 inches long.

Labor: 6 hours long I had gained a lot of weight with her, 54 lbs. but she was worth every pound. Emily is now 21 months old and doing wonderful.

Parents try this home sex test.

Take equal amounts of granulated Drano and the mothers first morning urine (it's the strongest in the morning). Go OUTSIDE and use a disposal container to mix the Drano and urine. Stir it up well. The color will be bluish/green while the mixture is fizzing. When the mixture stops fizzing and bubbling, see what color the result it. Blue or green will be a girl. Black or brown will be a boy.

This worked with both of my children. We have friends who have tried it and it has not failed yet.
