I was due on July 30th, 1998. It had been a very hot summer and my husband and I were anxiously awaiting the arrival of our son. I first went into labor on July 25th, but soon after arriving at the hospital, my labor tapered off and we were sent home.

Many doctors appointments passed, leaving me at 4cm dialated and 80% effaced for two weeks! Finally, August 10th came and my doctor decided to try and induce labor with a mizo tablet. Guess what - didn't work, so home we went and came back to the hospital on August 12th for another mizo tablet, still to no prevail!

FINALLY, on August 16th, my doctor decided she needed to break my water. We went into the hospital at noon, my water was broken and so labor progressed. I did get hooked up to pitocin to speed things along. At about four in the afternoon, now 7cm, I decided on an epidural. This took over an hour to get into my back because I was so swollen from being late. I was checked again at 7pm and I was a full 10cm. My nurse told me in under an hour I would be holding my baby.

Well, 10pm rolled around, my son was only at +1 so it was decided to go ahead with a c-section.

Alex Tyler was born at 11:28pm, weighing in at a hefty 9lb.15oz. and 21 inches long. No wonder he wouldn't come out!!! My doctor later told me his size was the reason I would go into labor and then it would stop.

My husband and I are now planning on trying to get pregnant again this summer when our son is a year old. I plan to find a midwife this time around though and aim for a more natural delivery. Hopefully a c-section will be avoided!!
