It all started on Saturday June 13, 1998. This is both my husband and my first child so we didn't know much. I started leaking pretty bad and my contractions were about 10-15 minutes apart, so we didn't call the doctor. We went to sleep and I was up every 15 or 20 minutes going to the bathroom. I finally decided that it may be my water leaking and my contractions were 5 minutes apart. I woke my husband up and told him to call the doctor. At this point it was 3:30 in the morning Sunday morning.

We got to the hospital and settled in the room at 4:00 a.m. the doctor would be in shortly. At this point they said it was just a waiting game. I was determined to hold off on the epidural as much as possible. I told my husband to get some sleep and I would wake him up if anything happens. At that point I was dialated to 4 cm and 100% effaced. They gave me the pitocin drip to speed things up, the pain got pretty bad and I had an epidural when I was about 6 cm. The nurse came in about 30 minutes later and said I was at 9 cm, they said about 30 more minutes and we'll start pushing.

The 30 minutes passed and the doctor and nurse came in and had me pushing. It was 5:00 p.m. now. I started pushing at 5:00 and at 8:30 the baby had only moved an inch. They tried to suction him out but that still did not work. In order to do the suction, they had to give me an epesiotomy. We ended up going in for an emergency c-section, and he was born at 8:47 p.m.

It was an awful labor and delivery but he is a beautiful baby, and I would go through it a hundred times again. He was healthy and came out screaming!! Thank you for reading my birth story.
