Brooke Marie's Birth Story
By Jo

I would like to announce the arrival of our baby girl. Yes, a girl, even though the ultrasound doctor said that it was going to be a boy, and it looked obvious on the screen it was a boy, I guess it was just the umbilical cord :)

I was admitted into the hospital on friday morning at 5:30 with contractions that were two minutes apart. Unfortunately they stopped and I checked myself out at 10:00am the same day.

Last night I went to the hospital for a water leak that happened a few days earlier and they checked and it was my amniotic fluid. Seeing that we didn't how long the water had been broken for, my doctor thought it best that I be induced. They used the gel first which worked very slowly, but at 5am this morning brought on some intense contractions.

At 5:30am I was moved into the labor ward and they started the drip to bring on even more stronger contractions. I was getting tremendous pain in my back and the midwife told me that it was back labor. I got a shot of pethidine that didn't work. And when the pain got so unbearable, I went ahead and got the epidural which was a total dream! From whining and crying about the pain to laughing and telling jokes during contractions.

I was checked and was 2 cm dialated and an hour later was 8 cm. So she called my husband and my doctor and they both came in. I was then able to push, halfwy thru pushing her out, my epidural wore off and I thought for sure that I was going to die of pain right then and there. So they had to quickly top it off again because I was no longer able to push.

After an hour and 15 minutes of pushing, her head came out, and soon followed by the rest of her body. She is doing just fine. 6 hours after I delivered her, I checked with my doctor and we came home.
