I had been in labor for a week when I went to see my doctor and he finally agreed that it was time to get things moving a little faster. I was admitted into the hospital on June 8th 2001 at 2 pm, and started on a syntocin drip, which my doctor felt would be better then just breaking my water to start off with. My fiance, and my mom were there, and we were all pretty excited to finally see our baby. We weren't able to find out the sex previously, but everyone was pretty sure it was a boy because of how high I was carrying. So for about 10 hours i labored on the syntocin, and my contraction were getting pretty brutal, so around 12:30 am I asked for an epidural. Keep in mind that I had been at the hospital since 8 am, and hadn't eaten since 7 am, so I was pretty tired and hungry :) Between 12:30 and 1 am my doctor finally came in and told me that i hadn't progressed and he was going to break my water (too bad he couldn't have just done that before!). I had been 3-4 cm when I had come in that morning, and I was 3-4 cm at 1 am...very frustrating after all that pain. After he broke my water I was given an epidural, which unfortunately didn't work, but it numbed my legs which made pushing exceptionally hard. I progressed at an excrutiating 1 cm per hour until 6 am, when I couldn't do anything but push. At that point the most painful thing was the pressure..it feels like you need to go to the bathroom in the worst way, but no matter how hard you push nothng happens...not very fun. After about an hour of pushing they wheeled me into the delivery room (and yes I was screaming pretty good;P) and the baby's heart rate dropped really low so they gave me a 3rd degree episiotomy and used the vacuum extractor to get the baby out asap. I was only in the delivery room for about 10 minutes before she was born...my doctor didn't even make it in time *l*. My beautiful daughter Kaitlyn Marie Kayla was born at 7:21 am June 9th 2001, weighing 8 pounds 8 ounces, and 22 inches long with a 36 cm head. I finally got to sleep around 10:30 after having been awake since 6:30 am the previous day;) Labor in itself was a scary and terrible thing to go through, but the end result is worth it by far!
