Caleb's Birth
By Becca

I went to my doctor's appointment on November 12th. He did an internal (ouch!) and said that I was dilated "between 1 and 2". He told me if I didn't go into labor throughout the weekend that he would induce me the following Monday. I was so excited to finally know that my angel would be here so soon!!

After I got home from the doctor's office me and my Mom went to run a few errands. I was having mild (very mild) cramps in my lower (I mean LOWER abdomen). I wasn't sure what to think so I just asked my Mom if I would KNOW if I was having contractions. She looked at me like I was really dumb and said "Yes Rebecca, you would know..." So I just thought it was cramps or something.

Well there were a little stronger, about as strong as your menstrual cramps, and like five minutes apart by 6 o'clock p.m. Well I didn't go to the hospital because they didn't hurt me. Well at 10 o'clock p.m. they weren't that strong but they were like 2 to 3 minutes apart! So I figured I should go to the hospital even though they weren't painful.

Well the nurse hooked me up to the monitors and said that I was having very good contractions. She told me to walk around so I would dilate some more. Well my OB came and he said my cervix hadn't changed. He admitted me anyway so they could give me some painkillers in my IV and take the edge off the pain. I was filling out my paperwork and decided that I wanted to go back home to my bed, (this was around 12 o'clock) MY MISTAKE!!!

Well I couldn't sleep at all! I got up and took a hot shower to make the contractions less intense. They slowed down to 4 and 6 minutes apart but were much more stronger. So I layed on my couch all night watching the Community Channel and timing my contractions. I waited until my Mom woke up (8o'clock am) before I decided to go back. I couldn't take it anymore! I went to the bathroom and some of my mucous plug came out.

Right after that I got sick to my stomach and vomitted. I had a really really strong contraction and then I decided that it was time! I got over there around 8:30a.m. and the doctor checked me. He said I was at 3 centimeters and so he broke my water! Finally! Something was happening!

Right before I got my epidural I vomitted like 2 or 3 times. Shoo! It was nasty! I got my epidural around 9:30a.m. I was so happy!! That thing can work miracles.

My OB came back and checked me at 11:30a.m. and I was at 4 centimeters. The baby's heart rate had dropped so they put the oxygen mask on me for a minute or two until it went back up.

Well 2 hours later (1:30pm) I had dilated up to 9 centimeters! 1 hour later I was ready to push. The OB came back and he was quite upset because he was missing his football game. He made me change the channel so he wouldn't miss it! HAHAHA! While I was pushing he was asking me the score and who made the touchdowns. It was hilarious! Even at the time! I had to have an episiotomy, (I hope no one has to get one of those).

Well after 10 minutes of pushing my baby boy was finally here! He weighed 7lbs and 14ozs. He was 19 inches long. I named him Caleb Johnathan. Everyone was so suprised at how well I did!

The nurses and doctor said everything was in perfect order and it was just a perfect labor! I felt that it was pretty easy, well it wasn't as bad as I was expecting! It was finally over and I had my beautiful baby boy....
