Kaitlyn's Birth Story
By Amy

Nine months, sure did seems like a long time when I started out. Now that Kaitlyn is here, where did the nine months go? I was one of the lucky ones, my pregnancy went off without a hitch. Well we had the usual nausea in the first few months, the burst of energy by the middle and then exhaustion and heartburn by the end. No matter how much I was looking forward to having it all over, I was worried about the pain. Just like most women probably do. Nobody that I knew was having or had a baby, well at least nobody in the last couple of years that could tell me what I was in for. Mind you I knew that I wanted an epidural, infact I thought that I was going to want one the second that the contractions started. But it didn't turn out to be so bad.

We had a pretty easy day that Sunday. I pretty much just was sitting on the couch all day watching t.v., but then about 4:30pm I started not to feel so good like I had an upset stomach or something. So I asked my husband to go for a walk with me because I didn't feel well, of course since I had been doing this all week he just rolled his eyes and got his shoes on. Well we only got half way up the street when I really didn't feel good and said that I would need to turn back. By the time that we turned back I was feeling ok again and wanted to keep walking. We got walking up another street again and the same thing. Got half way up the road and didn't feel well and wanted to turn back. This time got back to the house and felt better. We decided that maybe we should stay in the house and just walk around there. Well we did and the contractions just kept coming. I tried to get into the bath since my water hadn't broken but my back hurt too much that I could really only stand in the shower. By 9:00pm my husband started to suggest that we leave for the hospital since my contractions were 3 minutes apart. But of course when we got into the car they went back up to 6 minutes apart. We still went to the hospital. I was worried that when we got there they would check me and tell me to go home I was only 1cm. Fortunately when we did get there they took us right away. The first nurse that checked me said I was 8cm, I was worried then that I had missed the chance to have the epidural, because I knew that that was one experience I didn't want to miss. But then the other nurse checked me and said I was only 4cms and it was only because Katie's head was so low that it seemed that I was further along. From there I got into the hot-tub. I would recommend this for anyone. I laboured in there until I was about 7cms and couldn't take the pain anymore. Thats when I had the epidural and things seemed to move along much faster. By 3am we started to push. After about 2 hours of trying to push her out we had the doctor assist us. And at 5:07am I had my beautiful daughter. Kaitlyn weighed 8lbs and 2ozs when she arrived. It was the most exciting, scarey, and sad day of my life. We couldn't ask for a more wonderful little girl, she sleeps through the night already and takes only what she needs. I couldn't ask for a more precious little angel. She is already a month old now and I almost wish I was still pregnant with her, time is going by so fast, and we need to cherish each and every moment we have with her.
