Christopher's Birth Story
By joann rose

I had a wonderful 9 months of pregnancy. On Thursday, January 4th, 2001 I went to Health First in Cocoa Beach Florida. Everything was fine and the baby measured at 15 inches head to toe and about 6 lbs. About 7 p.m. Friday night, January 5, 2001 I started feeling contractions. They were coming about every 10 minutes lasting 25 seconds each. So I called my Doula and she came over and stayed at our house with my husband and I the whole night. We left at about 9 a.m. Saturday morning and arrived at Cape Cananveral Hospital. I put on my gown and was given an internal and was about 2cm dialated. So about a couple hours later My doctor, Dr. Collin Muir, Gave me pitoson to induce my labor. At about 1p.m. my doctor gave me another inernal and I was 3cm dialated. The contractions were coming on stronger and I couldn't deal with the pain any longer. So Dr. Muir checked me agian about 4 p.m. and I was between 5 and 6cm dialated. Then after that was down I have requested some pain Medication. So Dr. Muir called in some nubaine for me. After I got the shot it made me very tired so I tried to stay awake. About 2 1/2 hours later between 6 and 6:30 p.m. I started to have an erge to push. My husband called a nusre to have Dr. Muir come in immediately. My doctor then gave me another internal and I was about 10cm dialated. So everyone inthe room got prepared to start th delivery in process. It was a hard time for me. I stared pushing about 6:32 p.m. The baby had a hard time coming out. They had to put inside of me a medical equiptment that looked like a plunger to get the baby's head down. That didn't work so they told me to just keep pushing. Finally Dr. Muir performed an Episiotomy on me. The baby's head finally appeared. I gave it one last good push. He told me to stop pushing at that point so he can clear out the baby's airways. He told me to push one more time and at about 7:02 p.m. out came Christopher Anthony Rose. He was the most beautiful thing I have ever saw in my life. As the Doctor placed Chris on my chest I looked at him and couldn't help but cry. Dr. Muir had my husband cut the umbilical cord. Than they took Chris to get cleaned, measured, and weighed. He perfect. A healthy 6 pounds and 19 inches long. After all I went through giving birth to my son I would do it all over again. Christopher came home with us and our family was finally complete. Pregnancy and birth are the two most wounderful things in life a woman can experience.
