Tyler's Birth
By Amy Black

Tyler Jaison Black
Feb 14, 2001
10 lbs 3 ounces
20.5 inches long
14 Inch head

June 15th 2000 I took a home pregnancy test that came out possitive. We were not trying to concieve at the time so this was a huge shock to us initially. We were doing everything to prevent pregnancy from using spermicides and the pull out method together to using spermicides and condoms together. Anyhow God has blessed us with a Very Much wanted and Loved baby. We were unsure what his plans were but we are not the ones to question him. :) My Pregnancy went well. I heard the heartbeat for the first time at 12 weeks, had our u/s at 19 weeks where we found out we were having a boy. Then at 32 weeks ( same as my daughter) I went into preterm labor. I was having contractions. When I got to the hospital I was not dialated at all. Then after 3 hours of being on monitors and then observing my contractions, they did an internal and I was dialated to 2 cm. They gave me a shot of Brethene and Betamethasone ( not sure on the spelling of that) which is to help his lungs develop faster in case they cant get my labor to stop. After being there for 9 hours they finally got it under control. I was put on strict bedrest. YEAH right. I have two older spunky kids at home. a 2 year old Trevor and a 5 year old Mina. They did not understand that I could not get up and stuff so bedrest pretty much flew out the window. I did take it easy though. I started going to see the dr from this point on out every week. At 37 weeks exactly, My hubby had surgery for an illness he has. I was stressed that whole day. I did not feel right. I did not want to be around anyone. I am sure it was just stress. I almost passed out once. Drank some water. I was having SEVERE hot flashes that day. After hubby got out of surgery and I knew he was fine, I went home to go to bed. I was worn out. I thought I felt my water break, i was trickling fluid down my leg. So I called my dr. he said to go to the hospital. Thank goodness I was still only 2 cm and i suppose the baby was sitting on my bladder cuase it was not amniotic fluid. They kept me on the monitor for about an hour just to check to see if i was having contractions. I was not. She checked once more before sending me home and that is when she felt the baby was breech. My dr called me the next day for me to come in and have another u/s done to determine if he was breech. so in i go the next day. Of course , the little bugger was breech. I was so scared. My deliveries in the past have been so fast and wounderful. never really "had" to "recover". So the dr said the way the baby was laying. that there was no way he would attempt a vaginal birth. The baby was like this.. his feet where going into my left hip and his head was high up in my ribs. the dr called this a complete breech and said it was to dangerous and he has not done enough to chance the birth. plus the baby looked big he said. it would be to hard. I started bawling my eyes out. My hubby was still in the hospital. ( he had his chest cut open and his thymus gland taken out) I told my Dr everything. My mil had just taken a whole week off from work due to Jai being in the hospital. So did my FIL. My SIL was leaving the 16th ( this was on Feb 8th that i was at the dr's) I begged him to let the baby try to turn on its own. I was trying to stall for time for jai to get home and recover a little and also so if need be my mil could take off from work again. I was so worried, If i had a Section done on Monday at the latest I still would have been in the hospital till Thursday. Then My SIL was leaving to go back home on Friday. Me and My hubby trying to recover from surgery and having two older kids and a newborn. I was so scared. He said for me to come back on Monday and we shall make a decision then. I did every excersise known to man kind to get this little baby to flip over. He was not about to budge LOL he was comfy! Monday came and he was still breech. Dr and I decided to try for the External cephalic version. He said no mater what.. I would have the baby on that wednesday, Feb 14th 2001. I prayed so hard. Harder than I have ever prayed before in my life. I was not scared of the surgery itself, ok so maybe I was a little bit lol. I was more scared for my hubby who, if I had a C Section, would have been at home alone with two kids till I got home.

Wednesday came. WE got to the hospital at 530 am and were admitted. The anithesiologist came in and gave me an epi right away. the nurse gave me my IV, and they gave me a shot to relax my muscles in my uterus. They gave me the Epi right off just in case they had to do an emergency Section he said. If my placenta was to rupture or something like that. They would not have to worry about numbing me and all that good stuff, they could just get the baby out of me.

I was really numb. from the chest down. The dr came in about 8 am and said "Are you numb yet?" I said "Yep!" He took a deep breath, then looked to see how the baby was possitioned and began the turning. The first try failed. I was trying to focus not on the turning but on happy stuff like balloons and cookies ( i was hungry lol) But I tell you, if I was not numb I believe it would have hurt like son of a gun! He was pressing so hard he was shaking!

He looked on the u/s machine to see if the baby had turned at all. Nope. He said, "well, lets try this one more time!" and he started the procedure and I FELT THE BABY FLIPPING! I was so happy! I knew he was head down then. The Dr confirmed this by u/s and immediately broke my water so he would not flip back. The dr was done about 9 am. He told the nurse to start me on the pit drip. about 10 min after he walked out of the room my Blood pressure went very low. 58/28. I felt so dizzy and light headed. almost like a drunk feeling when you are sick to your stomache. I was nausiated and about to pass out. they put me on oxygen and kept talking to me. I felt like i was in a tunnel when they were talking. I think she gave me a shot of something to counter act the effect i was having . all this was due to the shot they gave me to relax my muscles in my stomach. after 30 min i felt fine and said "lets get this baby going" LOL. they knew i was ok then! I was soo excited to be able to have my 3rd vaginal birth!

11 am I was finally starting to feel pain. I had the needle in my back but they only gave me a bolus ( one dose) of the epi drug and it was wearing off. they put me on the continuous drip at this point. The nurse checked me and i was 5 cm. She said she spoke with the Dr and he would be here sometime around 1pm

1 pm came and went, no dr. I was getting anxious to see how far I had progressed LOL. 2pm he finally showed up, right in the middle of my soap oprah LOL ( one life to live) he checked me and said i was 6-7 cm and fully effaced. He said he would be back in a few hours. smiled and walked out.

NO SOONER THAN HE walked out did i feel this ENORMOUS amount of pain in my pelvic bone! I was crying the pain was so terrible.I swear the pain felt like something was trying to rip me open from end to end. I asked the nurse if she could give me another shot of the epi drug..so she did, something wasn't working. Since the dr JUST checked me ( i am talking he was walking out the door and the pain hit me like a ton of bricks) The nurse did not check me. She went for a smoke break and asked if i woudl be ok. she was super nice. I said I would be fine if this pain would go away lol. she said the bolus she just gave me would kick in soon. and she said, and i quote " now dont you try to have that baby while i am out there smoking" lol

My sil said my contractions were not that big. compared to the others.. they were in the 170's-190's but while in this pain they were only hitting 50's. She convinced me to get another nurse. At 220 pm The other nurse came in adn lifted the sheets and Tylers head was already crowned! She told me not to push cause noone can catch that baby yet lol. she was nice to. she was joking of course.

she said Melissa, get down here in case she cant controll the urge to push, I have to get the dr back in here STAT! but she was calm about it all. I was in awe of how fast i went from 6-7 cm to 10 cm ( 20 min, or sooner lol) The dr came back in 5 min but it felt like EVER. He drained my urine and prepped me with betadine. Then the pushing began. First push his head came out, Second push his shoulders started coming out, I said "OMG whatever you are doing That feels soo good" the dr laughed at me and said" i have never heard anyone say that before." Third push and his shoulders were out and Fourth push and his whole body was out. Total of 6 min pushing.

Earlier Since having the u/s and stuff, I asked the dr's and nurses to guess the weight just for the fun of it.. he felt around on my belly and said 8 lbs. the nurse said no way. bigger! lol

He weighed 10 lbs 3 ounces 20.5 inches long and 14 inch head! I did not rip, Never had an episiotomy and was released the next day, ( 24 hours after birth)
