What To Do When Colic Gets Too Much

What To Do When Colic Gets Too Much

You have probably heard of a colicky baby, but you cannot even begin to imagine the stress it takes on your body, mind, and other relationships. This is because a crying baby with colic cannot be soothed. So, the parents feel like they are not good parents since they cant soothe their baby, they also feel bad their child is in pain, not to mention the idea of a snuggly little baby that smiles and is always happy has gone out the window. Combine all this with frustration and lack of sleep and you wind up with some seriously stressed parents. So, the question is what can parents of a colicky baby doe when the colic gets too much? The following tips might help you find some relief during the colic months.

Take a Break

Many mothers are at home on maternity leave for the first six weeks or so of their babys life. So, during this time if your baby is suffering colic and you are the only one home and you cant take it anymore then put the baby in his crib, swing, or other safe place, close the door and take a five or 10 minute break. You might feel bad leaving your baby alone crying, but if you are losing your mental stability and feel angry, tired and stressed you need a mini break. So, put the baby in a safe place and just check out for a few minutes. Then, when you return you will be better prepared to handle the crying and screaming. Remember your baby is going to cry and scream whether you are there or not, so a little break will do you wonders.

Call In Some Help

You know all those people who keep asking what can they do to help you? Well, here is their chance to step up to the plate. Ask them to take an hour, two hours, or even a thirty minute stretch of time with the baby. During this time you can take a shower, a much needed nap, or even run to the grocery store. Getting away from the crying for just a little while will help you cope for the rest of the time when you cant. Grandparents, aunts, cousins, friends, church members, and the like are all great options to take a baby shift.

Try Some Remedies

Massage, herbs, essential oils, and gripe water are all remedies that have worked for other parents with colicky babies. So, read up on the different remedies and see which one you want to start with first. Hopefully one of them will work and you and your baby can both get some much needed relief.
