What are the Alternatives to Vaccines?

Vaccines are widely believed to be the one way to protect people from disease. With the first vaccine against smallpox hundreds of years ago and the eventual eradication of smallpox a whole host of vaccines were developed and introduced. Now, America’s children are the most widely vaccinated in the world. In fact, kids receive many more vaccines today than they did even 20 years ago. There has been significant research into whether or not vaccines are as safe as many doctors and researchers claim they are. Additionally, many states have now instituted policies where parents can receive waivers based on health, religious, and even moral beliefs. More parents are choosing to skip vaccines or change the vaccination schedule. What are the alternatives to vaccines?

Delay

One alternative to the typical vaccine schedule is to simply delay it. Most infants’ immune systems are so immature that parents are wary about vaccinating them so early in their lives. Some doctors are supportive of a delayed vaccination schedule while others are not. If you choose to vaccinate your child on a delayed schedule it is important to find a doctor that will support you in this.

No Vaccinations

Another option is to not vaccinate your child at all. Many children who are vaccinated come down with diseases anyway and others may have vaccination injuries. If you are concerned about this then do not vaccinate your child. Again, many pediatricians will not support you in this and quite a few will not even see your child in their practice if you refuse to vaccinate. Because of this, it is very important to find an understanding and supportive pediatrician for your child.

Maintain Immune System

If you choose to forego vaccinations then you will want to help your child stay as healthy as possible. The best way to do this is through a strong immune system. This means you should ensure your child gets all the nutrients necessary each day through fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic. Additionally, you will want to give your child multivitamins and plenty of exercise. Make sure they are well rested and this should be enough to keep their immune systems strong and healthy. That is not to say they will not ever get sick, because they will, but if they have strong immune systems there is less of a chance of getting seriously ill. You may want to avoid places like hospitals, rest homes, and the like where lots of illnesses are, too, to make sure your child remains as healthy as possible.
