Toothaches During Pregnancy – Best Ways To Deal With Them

Before you actually conceive, it’s a good idea to get all of your health check-ups out of the way. A full medical is an excellent way of getting yourself up to date, and you may even choose to have moles examined, any small surgeries performed and even ingrown toenails fixed up!! Sure, it sounds ludicrous but you try cutting your toenails when you can’t even see your feet!

A visit to the dentist is an absolute must before you conceive. For one thing, it means only having to go once while you’re pregnant, and it also means your dental health is in good shape, leaving you with one less thing to worry about when your body is going through radical changes. If you do happen to suffer from toothache when pregnant, there are a couple of things you can do.

Cloves and Clove Oil
Ah yes, the good old toothache standby, the clove. Chew one or two cloves a little to release the juices and then place them between the troublesome tooth and your cheek. After about half an hour, you should notice that the pain subsides. This is only a temporary fix so you will need to use that time to book an appointment to see your dentist. You can find clove oil, also known as eugenol, at most pharmacies but use it sparingly because it can actually damage the nerve itself. Use a couple of drops on a cotton ball, held in place as per the cloves mentioned above.

Reflexology
Reflexology is a healing therapy harking back to ancient times and it is based on the premise that all the body’s organs match up with a pressure point on the feet, hands and ears. Visiting a trained reflexologist can bring relief for many pregnancy discomforts and even toothache can be improved.

Do Not Try Accupressure
Although acupressure can be beneficial in the treatment of toothache, the toothache remedy is not recommended for pregnant women as it can actually cause uterine contractions.

Naturally, the best course of action when toothache strikes is to get the tooth fixed. Toothaches, like all pains, happen for a reason and they signify something that needs repairs. Your dentist will know exactly how to treat your case, keeping in mind your pregnant condition.
