Tips For A Successful Plane Trip With A Toddler

There is nothing worse for parents than to be trapped on a plane with a tantrum throwing toddler. IT’s embarrassing and you feel powerless to control this little being you created. How could that be? Luckily, there are plenty of ways to travel successfully with your toddler on a plane. You just need to know how to plan and be prepared to accommodate your toddler’s schedule rather than your own.

Schedule

Most of the time people search for plane tickets that are the cheapest. When you fly with a toddler you want to look for flights that will accommodate their schedule. If your toddler sleeps at 1 pm every day then taking a 12:30 flight is perfect because you can board the plane, settle down, and then get your toddler to sleep for the flight. Don’t try and keep your toddler awake on a plane because they will get cranky and make your trip quite stressful. Remember, too, that the fewer layovers in the airport the better for your toddler. Try to fly at times when the plane won’t be full, either, so that if you need to move you can.

Toys

Always carry your toddlers’ favorite toy on the plane as well as one or two new toys. The old toy will provide comfort and love, while the new toy will be new and exciting to play with. This is the way to have the best of the both worlds and to keep your toddler entertained while onboard the aircraft.

Food/Drink

Toddlers have meltdowns when they are hungry or thirsty. Don’t rely on the plane staff to have the food and drink your toddler loves the most. Just pack these items in his diaper bag so they are readily available during the flight. IF you keep your child fed the he will be able to play for hours.

Window Seat

Choose a window seat if possible so you can show your toddler what it looks like when you are inside the plane. Allow them to look for clouds, trees, or anything they can see. Even ask them if they can see your house. Keep them busy and occupied.

Coloring Book

Take the special coloring book with markers that only color on the special paper. Your toddler will love coloring and making things and you will love that it isn’t’ messy. Let your toddler has as much fun as possible on the plane.
