Entertaining the family is expensive, there is no doubt about that. However, it doesn’t have to be and you can get creative and find plenty of free entertainment options in your area. Of course, not everyone will be able to take advantage of the free entertainment ideas below, but many of you will and should. When you can save money, you should, and when you can spend time together as a family, then you should do that, too. Spending time with the family and saving money at the same time is priceless.

Tip #1 Airport

Most airports have viewing areas where you can watch the planes take off and land. Some even have playgrounds for the kids, picnic tables, and public restrooms. Check out your local airport to see if they offer an area like this. If so, you will find it is truly amazing to watch the planes land and take off and see how the air traffic controllers handle all the traffic. It’s educational and fun for the entire family.

Tip #2 Event Parking Lots

You may not have thought of this, but you can go to parking lots where events are taking place like ballgames, concerts, and the like. You will be close enough to hear the music and in many cases for ball games you will be able to view the gigantic screens showing the game. Take a picnic lunch and hang out with everyone else who enjoys tailgating. It’s fun and free!

Tip #3 Parks

Parks are free and most generally have excellent playground equipment, walking trails, and other activities to enjoy like fishing or feeding the ducks. If you have kids you will be able to let them get all of their energy out while enjoying some time outdoors. The kids will really have a lot of fun and when they are worn out they will sleep better! Since parks are free to use and enjoy you should make a list of the closest parks to your home. This will allow you to enjoy different areas and never spend a dime.
