Symptoms Of Pregnancy
Every so often, you’ll hear in the news about a woman who gave birth without even realizing that she was pregnant. It seems unfathomable but it does happen. These women even experience regular menstrual periods for the whole nine months and have no clue that the pains they’re experiencing are labor pains, until a head starts to appear in a very odd place!
Implantation cramps
For most of us, the symptoms of pregnancy will be fairly obvious, whether or not we have planned to conceive. The first sign can be implantation cramps that are pains that feel like period pain but actually signify the moment when the zygote (recently fertilized egg) attaches itself to the uterus wall. Not every woman will be aware of this sensation, however.
Missed period
The absence of a period is another really clear sign of pregnancy and usually sees the Mom-to-be off to the pharmacy to buy a test kit. Some women experience a little spotting but the test will provide confirmation if in doubt.
Tiredness
In the first trimester, fatigue is a real issue. With hormone levels going crazy, and the uterus enriching itself with blood, it can be a battle to function normally and a good nap is very welcome indeed. Headaches can also factor into this tiredness.
Morning sickness
While some women barely even know what it is, others suffer terribly with morning sickness that often, doesn’t happen in the morning at all! It can strike in the afternoon or even in the middle of the night and can last a few days or several months.
Breast changes
Mother Nature prepares every part of your body for the development of your baby. Your breasts will become tender and your nipples will be sore and you may experience a kind of pins and needles sensation in them. Nipples may also become enlarged and turn darker, especially in women with fairer skin.
Cravings
Just as some women will report intense cravings for certain foods or drinks, others will say that flavors they usually enjoy have become a total turn-off for them during pregnancy.
More frequent urination
It’s common to urinate more frequently when pregnant due to the increased blood flow, which increases urine production.
Body temperature
Pregnant women often feel warmer than normal, and this is another result of that increased blood flow. They feel less susceptible to cold and more uncomfortable in warmer weather.
There are so many symptoms of pregnancy and every woman is different, that the best way to know if you are pregnant is to just take the test. It takes all the guesswork out of the equation and you can stop wondering why you wish you had a big bowl of sour cherries on your desk in the middle of winter!
