Should My Child Receive Some Vaccines, but not Others?
If you choose to vaccinate your child the best thing to do is to use the alternative vaccine schedule. This schedule allows your child to receive vaccines over a longer period of time and reduce the chance of reactions and side effects. Plus, it gives your baby time to develop and mature his immune system. The alternative vaccine schedule gives babies the most important vaccines first and then holds off on the less important ones until later on. Parents still end up with fully vaccinated kids while the babies do not have to endure so many shots while they are less than 18 months old.
Benefits
One of the benefits of an extended vaccine schedule is that the potential for chemical overload is greatly reduced. Some infants are given as many as six shots at one time, which could be too much for an infant with an immature immune system. When only one or two shots are given at a time then the baby’s body has a better chance of dealing with the chemicals and detoxifying them.
Another benefit is that the alterative vaccination schedule will only allow babies to receive one vaccine containing aluminum at a time. Overloading too much aluminum in a baby could cause brain damage and there is no reason to give as many as four aluminum-containing shots at one time.
Only one live virus vaccine should be given at once. The body can handle the live viruses of one vaccine significantly easier than from multiple vaccines with live viruses.
When fewer shots are given at one time there are usually less incidents of side effects. Additionally, should a child have a severe reaction it is easier to determine what vaccine caused the reaction when only one or two are administered at one time.
Be prepared to fight your doctor on this. Many pediatricians are not accepting of parents who determine what is best for their child because they think that is their job. Regardless of the fact that they do not educate themselves appropriately on vaccines and their side effects, doctors will tell you that the recommended schedule should be followed exactly. If you run into this with your child’s pediatrician simply thank them for their time and find another. You are responsible for your child’s health and doing what is right for them. Don’t let a doctor bully you!
