Save on Food Costs with Leftovers

If you are already cooking meals you can simply cook a little bit more and have leftovers for the next day. It’s shocking how much time and money you can save simply by cooking extra the first time around. You will save time and money and still have a delicious meal. Consider the following points and you will see that making double what your family will eat the first time you cook can save money and time in places you never considered.

Meals are Ready

First of all, the meals are ready when you are ready to eat the next day. There is no time or gas spent going to the grocery store shopping for additional ingredients and all you have to do is reheat the food and serve. That’s fast and easy!

No Preparation

There is no preparation. On average, you probably spend about an hour preparing and cooking a meal. When you have leftovers in the refrigerator you take them out and heat them. It’s simple and since there is no preparation there is no time spent cooking. That time may be spent working, cleaning the house, or simply relaxing.

No Dishes

When dinner is already made there are no dishes to wash. There are the typical plates and glasses from dinner, but not an entire sink full of pots and pans. This saves on soap, water, and of course your time.

You may have thought about leftovers saving you time in the kitchen, but you probably never thought about the other ways eating leftovers can help you save. Start planning out meals that you can cook enough of for leftovers the next day. You may even want to plan meals that can easily be made into other meals like baked chicken one night and use the leftovers in chicken salad.
