Probiotics And Hay Fever

Hay Fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, can be a frustrating condition. Hay fever can interfere with your enjoyment of life. It can make it difficult to participate in certain activities, such as those that tend to trigger your hay fever. Complicating things even worse is the fact that many of the medications that are used for hay fever have a variety of side effects that are undesirable. Fortunately, there is evidence now that probiotics may be able to help with hay fever.

Probiotics are a type of beneficial bacteria. These bacteria, instead of harming your health with an infection or an illness, actually help to promote your overall health in a variety of ways. Probiotics are used to restore the balance of bacteria in the digestive system. These bacteria serve a number of functions in the digestive system, including helping to absorb nutrients, helping with digestion, and creating a barrier against a variety of harmful substances such as bad bacteria and antigens. For this reason, probiotics have been used in a variety of different situations related to digestion, such as helping with diarrhea, constipation, and even IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Probiotics can also help to boost the immune system, and there is evidence that using probiotics can actually help with a variety of disorders that are related to the immune system, such as hay fever.

In scientific studies, probiotics have been successfully used to help reduce the severity of hay fever. This should come as no surprise. Probiotics have been proven to have an affect on other immune disorders, as well. In some studies of infants, the use of probiotics has been demonstrated to actually delay or prevent the onset of asthma.

If you or your child have severe hay fever, and probiotics or other over-the-counter remedies do not seem to be giving you much relief, or if you are having difficulty breathing, you should speak with your health care provider.
