Is It Beneficial To Start Homeschooling At Preschool Age?

Everyone wants what is best for their child and that especially includes education. Many homeschooling families wonder whether or not they should begin homeschooling their children at preschool age or wait until later. The answer to this is that all children should start learning at preschool age and since they are home it is the perfect place to do so.

This goes for kids who will be homeschooled as well as kids who will head off to a regular school. But, at this young age you dont want to sit your child down to a day of learning, activities, and homework because it is simply overwhelming. Instead, focus on reading a lot of books, doing interactive activities with your child, allowing plenty of coloring and painting, playing with blocks, building structures, counting, learning the alphabet, and just having fun.

While you are doing this your child will develop many important skills like hand/eye coordination that will serve him well when school time comes around, whether it be a homeschool or traditional school. In this scenario it can be really beneficial to your child in the long run to learn some of the basics early on. Plus, your child will think learning is fun so when it comes time for school you wont have rebellious children.

However, keep in mind that preschoolers do not need a strict schedule that involves reading at 8 am, followed by math, and then a short break and back to science. Preschoolers simply dont have this kind of attention span and unless what you are doing is fun and exciting they more than likely wont pick it up. But, if you find a way to make many of your preschoolers activities educational and fun then your toddler will think learning is exciting and probably have that outlook for life. On the other hand, if you really push the alphabet, insist on coloring within lines, or lose it when your child cant add three plus five at the tender age of two then you are going overboard.

If at any point your youngster does not seem to be enjoying whatever it is you are doing then try to make it more exciting and engaging, or simply switch activities until you find an activity your child enjoys. Children learn quickly when they are enjoying themselves, but the moment you try and force them to be more like older kids doing homework and studying then you are going too far and your child will suffer. Just have fun with your preschooler, teach what you can, and leave the rest for when he reaches school age.
