Infant Development 6-9 Months
The age of 6 to nine months is an interesting one in terms of your infant’s development. This stage is a big one in terms of your baby’s movement. Several important developmental milestones will likely take place during the 6-9 month timeframe.
Sitting up is one of the major developments that infants go through. By the age of six to nine months, your baby should be able to sit up without you having to hold her up. She will need some parental supervision during the first few weeks that she is sitting up, however, as she is learning to balance herself. You will want to watch to make sure that she doesn’t fall head-first out of her sitting position.
At this age, infants tend to want to try to move around on the floor as well. Sometimes, a baby might try to crawl during this period. However, it is more common during the age of 6-9 months that your infant will want to roll around on the floor, or perhaps bottom shuffle from one place to another.
At the end of this stage, your infant can probably be able to pull himself up to a standing position. He will usually make it up, and then bump right down again. However, this brand new vantage point often provides your infant with the motivation that he needs to start to try to be more mobile and to get to the new places that he can see while standing.
Fine motor development is progressing at this stage also. She can grab toys, pass them from one hand to the other, and examine these toys with concentration and interest. Your infant will probably begin to be able to point between the ages of 6 and 9 months, as well.
In terms of language, he will start to combine syllables. He will change pitch and his tone in the same way that you do. He will listen to and watch your conversations with other adults. He may even begin to sing a few notes of a song or a lullaby. He is likely starting to shout at this stage, as well.
