Infant CPR - Where Can I Learn It?


Many new parents worry about their child and how they will care for him on a daily basis much less in the case of an emergency. Because of this lots of parents, both new and old, are interested in learning infant CPR. The reason being is that in the event of a cardiac emergency the parents or childcare provider present will need to react quickly and knowing CPR may be the difference of life or death for the child. Often times waiting for help to arrive takes too long and death or permanent brain damage may occur. Because of this parents, childcare providers, and even grandparents need to know infant CPR. But, where can you learn infant CPR?

Many counties and cities offer infant CPR at local fire and rescue stations. Interested individuals may sign up to take the course over the course of several days or even an intense Saturday program. Some courses are free while others cost a small fee. Regardless, the small price is certainly worth paying if it could potentially save a childs life. Of course, you may want to learn right now and dont have the ability to attend courses offered in your community. The best thing you can do in this situation is to buy a book or video on infant CPR.

Books on Infant CPR
There are lots of books on infant CPR that can teach the procedure, test you, and even answer your questions. You can buy one of these books online or from a local bookstore. This is no the best option for learning infant CPR because it does not allow you hands on practice with an instructor, although it will teach you the basics which are better than nothing.

Videotapes or DVDs on Infant CPR
Also available are videotapes and DVDs that teach you how to perform infant CPR. These programs are great because it is like having an instructor yet you can watch the video at your leisure. In addition, you have a visual aid of how infant CPR is performed and in the case of emergency you will be better prepared to save an infants life.

Of all the options taking a class on infant CPR is the best simply because you have a live instructor to teach you and show you whether you are performing the procedure correctly or not. In addition, you will be able to practice on small infant sized dolls that will give you a feel for how the procedure should be and give you a little hands on experience in case you need to perform infant CPR in real life.
