If My First Baby Had Colic Will My Second Also?

If you ask any mom if she wants a second baby one day while her first is still an infant she will probably say that sometime in the future that might happen. However ask a mom of a colicky baby if she wants to have a second child and she will probably be filled with apprehension. The reason why is that colic stresses the parents significantly and thinking of a second child that might also have colic is a little overwhelming.

Then there are those women who are planning their second child, but after the first colicky one are very concerned about dealing with another colicky baby. Fortunately, there does not appear to be any link between first born colicky babies and second born babies having a higher percentage chance of having colic. On the other hand, there is no correlation between having a first born child without colic and the subsequent one or ones having colic.

If you have a baby with colic the first thing you should do is visit your pediatrician. It is important to check out your baby and make sure that he is ok and that the diagnosis truly is colic. Some infants have other medical problems that cause them to scream at the top of their lungs. But, if your doctor cant find any problem with your infant and your baby cries nonstop for three hours per day, at least, and at least three days per week then it is probably colic.

Parents hear so many war stories about colic that they expect the worse. And, while colic is really difficult to suffer through with your baby the good news is that it does pass eventually. In fact, by four months old more than 90% of infants have outgrown their colic. So, if your first born does not or did not suffer from colic that doesnt meant your next one or ones wont. the same goes if your baby was colicky, the next one may or not be.
